I do not overblend verdaccio. Therefore I (lightly) wet sand before proceeding with the next layer because I prefer glazing on smooth - though not smooth as glass - surfaces. Glazing over the visible brush marks might produce unwanted results, since it exaggerates the "relief" look (*) which I was not after in this case.
If it happens on the eye or mouth it might be quite noticeable. Besides, sanding between coats improves adherence.
(*) - Rembrandt's brush marks are most famous example. In many cases, what appears as very thick (almost bas-relief) impasto is actually result of his glazing over only moderately thick impasto.
