I've used, and continue to use, Fredrix Ultrasmooth to practice on, for the economy. It's a mixture of cotton and polyester. The polyester may restore strength to the shorter-fibered cotton--compared to linen, which is longer-fibered and thus stronger.
I've also noticed that the poly-cotton blends are less subject to expansion and contraction due to humidity. Here in the South, that's also a plus.
Purists may gag, but these are perfectly acceptable products. Go ahead and use them if you choose.
