As with just about any digital camera you can set the "white balance" on the D70, which basically is a way for you to tell the camera what sort of light you have on your subject.

You'll get good color results by photographing your subject near a north window and setting your white balance to "shade" or "cloudy". If you are photographing things under standard household lamps set the white balance to tungsten.

Of course you can get into the details of setting up a custom white balance using a white card etc etc but I'd rather paint!
