Not sure?
I kinda like being positive before I start something big. Like if I were to do this pose, I would raise or lower the line of the top of the bluff. Even though the negative space is interesting, it forms an unattractive tangent at his neck. I also might add another couple inches to the right side (more of his body and hand). The balance might look better. I would also add more space above his head. Then I would draw the whose thing out to scale and see if I'm "sure". I've done too many that I wasn't sure about, and wasted much time. Guess this is how to learn!
My largest piece was an abstract, painted, pieced, appliqued, and quilted waterfall. It was 14ft tall and 12 ft wide at it's widest point. With $500.00 invested in raw silk, I was absolutely positive before I started cutting!
