Sneak Technique
Thank you Enzie and Sharon!
I began a seascape from our bareboat charter that was anchored in a charming cove in St. Vincent called Petit Byahaut. As the wind shifts so does the boat, so I had to continually wait for my "scene" to come back into view. That's when I spotted my subject reading on the stern pulpit. I knew she had settled in for a while. So I began a second painting without a word to her and voila'!
Whenever she looked up, I would look at my work or the scene to her right so as not to arouse suspicion.
My advice is to get out and start a landscape that includes the setting where your subject often comes. They will get used to you being there. Then add them in.
ps. Barbara M. purchased this and three other paintings from that trip!
