Great job, Jim.

It's very hard to achieve right hues and values when working from a photo, and at the same time to avoid all pitfalls lurking along the way. One of the main things in portrait painting, IMO, besides rendering the likeness (it goes without saying) is not letting that your sitter looks like a lifeless wax doll.

This gentleman has a character, and that quality (the psychological insight, not just accurate rendering of the sitter's features: every talented art student in this world can achieve a likeness) I don't notice that often in contemporary portraiture, no matter how famous the artist is. There are many painters, but very little artists, IMO.

I would like to see a close-up of the face, though.
