Janni with her kid's

Janni, Thor og Freja,
This painting has been under way for most of a year now and I feel that it has been a worth-while experience to listen to the painting and figure out what had to be changed. I think that it is asking for a dark frame too. Oil on linen, 80 x 100 cm |
Another, beautiful, juicy painting. I really admire your work and enjoy seeing the brushwork in your pieces (the boy is my favorite) You did a nice job with the variance in skintones between the three of them. Lots to study.

Allan,
Finally we can see this completed! The color scheme is so rich. Even though the colors are cool and neutral in some areas, there is a lot of warmth in the color, especially the shadows, and I think this contributes to the richness. I love the grouping of the figures, the lost edges in some areas, and the way each individual comes across within the group. The portrait as a whole is beautifully composed. It is a thoughtful and feelingful work of art. |
Hi Allan
There is a marvelous illusion of solidity in the figures that makes the three of them really separate/emerge from the background! The reflected color in the shadows is beautiful. The kids' expressions and gestures ring true to their age - and I think the hands (detail over in WIP) are downright impressive! Really enjoyed watching this progress  |

Thank you, Pat, Alex and Terri,
The color scheme was big hurdle to solve. I liked the cool and neutral colors of their clothes but had to alter both Janni's more grayish blouse and Freja's more greenish in order to harmonize the group. I also modifyed the composition by changing the arm position of Freja in order to form a circular composition, and took elements from many of the references I took last Easter. The flower is an Easter Lily. |
Fantastic work, Allan!
Three figure compositions are always a treat to see and this is no exception. Very well achieved sense of form in each of the figures and each head is beautifully rendered, with an overall colour harmony that is quite successful. I like studying the closeups very much. Congratulations! |
Another great piece Allan.
I'd suggest you to try a golden frame. |

Three figures is indeed a flock and I think that I learned many things, got valuable experience and inspiration for coming group paintings, but it took a while. |

My idea is that; sinse the background in the painting is a rather dark Off White, I will need a dark / black frame to make the general impression of the painting, lighter. Maybe I could have a gold fillet ? |
The intensity of those blue eyes really make this portrait. She is very beautiful. Fantastic composition.
I've really enjoyed seeing this painting come together over time. Thanks for sharing. -Amanda |
Allan--
Beautiful work...brushwork is so assured and fluid! |
Thank you Amanda and Tom,
While I was painting the portrait I realized that the position of Janni and Freja's heads are similar to my very first WIP on the forum: http://forum.portraitartist.com/show...9&page=2&pp=10 Time travels fast! |
