Sheila outside

Here are a couple of shots I took the other day. These were taken a couple of minutes apart and I post them both to show the difference in effect you can get with just the turn of the body and slight movement in relation to the light.

The sun was very low coming almost horizontal from my back.

To my taste the first does not offer much interest beyond being a nice photograph. The second, although some might consider the light harsh and angular, I kinda like it.

Marianne,

Thanks for the tip, others may get use of this. I don't use a digital camera yet, I'm still clunking along with film.

These were shot with T-MAX 400 b&w film. I think I'm off the b&w film from here on out. If you were doing a lot of jiggering with the image it might be worth it but it's a bit of a head ache to get processed and printed. Anything you shoot with color can be converted to gray scale anyway so I'm not sure why anyone would still be using b&w film for our purposes.

Marianne,

Your English beats my Svedish by a Scandinavian kilometer. The only thing I can say in Swedish is "meatballs."

Card

Marianne, I may try such a card out myself with my digital. Part of the attraction to the higher end digital is their reported color accuracy. I can attest though that the white meter misses the color a bit. I think it is with mixed temperature light that the greatest problems occur (blues and purples to be exact) in my experience. Mike I'd still like to meet you at the Philbrook one day.TT

Tim,

There is presently a Remington exhibit, "The color of night" at Gilcrease. which runs through Nov. 9th.

Anyone coming near Tulsa should visit the very respectable Gilcrease Museum. And Philbrook ain't too shabby either.

It just occured to me that the villian in this (excerpt) poem "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes, my favorite poem, is named Tim!

***

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding-
Riding - riding-
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

"One kiss, my bonny sweetheart; I'm after a prize tonight,
But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light;
Yet, if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,
Then look for me by moonlight,
Watch for me by moonlight,
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though **** should bar the way."

Frederic Remington - 1907 part of "The Color of Night" exhibit.
